I was going to

But now I can't - I wanted to post about the party last night, about the scarf, the food and all that - but right now I'm mad and I'm mad more so at myself - why? Because I feel that in some way Cheryl was right, that in some way my first impression was right and that in some way I've yet to find a way to effectively channel myself in other directions but at the end of the day I feel more like the women of Def Jam and more attune with the who akin their tongues to knives, razors and the like - but in the end the issue is I may cut you - if I aim right but I never seem to be able to cut through the ideologies that rip at our fabrics - the beliefs that still determine in archaic fashion what is and what it is - along the lines of who? Who decided that? And before I can even pause the voice in the back of my mind goes the White Christian male and the second response is ew, we're going back there again - haven't they been blamed for enough? And then as I think about it - I don't think they have, more specifically they have ever been effectively blamed in such as fashion as to require acceptance of previous actions by the simple act of ensuring that subsequent actions are not a perpetuation of the previous said acts.

That the labeling stops - that no act is "homosexual" other than the act of same gendered sex - that a person is not defined by their traits that we can as a society and more importantly as a Church recognize that not all women are Sally Homemakers and that all men are not Joe Businessmen's. That there are individuals who regardless of their sexual preference have characteristics that we have by some act of government aligned to the other gender. That to cook or be artistic does not make a man gay and that to be a athletic, or mechanically inclined female is not be a lesbian. Just as we label in any of the other regards - hair color, skin color, accent and the list goes on. We make exotic and other what is although different just like us - not to be defined.

I'm in need of a long walk...

Or maybe just maybe when someone says something your knee jerk reaction is to tell them how they are wrong you are right. I will be the first to say that I get the short end of the stick on so many levels because I am in fact a Straight, single, christian, white, male. I get pigeon-holed for that singular fact. Therefore nothing I have to say, or do, can be productive. My only agenda is to oppress everyone who does not fall into that demographic. If you truly believe that I am sorry. Oh and because of the place I was born and raised I am inherantly evil and wrong and all I do is sit and watch Pat Robertson from my corner office all day.

purely on what was said - it is homophobic, gender discriminatory and something that I will not support - I will not support that we still maintain - that means the whole of society, more specifically "Christian society" the nursery rhymes of what little girls and boys are made of - and everything outside those clear limits is labeled homosexual - it's not, and I will not permit that kind of language to be used in my company - whether Internet based or face to face. Know that I do not permit the usage of any form language that perpetuates "otherness" - no racial slurs - from the N word all the way through to happa, no gender discriminations and no use of words related to orientation of person as an insult for another. That means no act, no choice, no like or dislike is either white nor black, male nor female and it sure it not homo or straight.

You can believe different than me and I can believe different than you but we must leave out the inappropriate language in the discourse.

Wow for someone who is so against any kind of discrimination I ask then why is it ok to discriminate against the demographic I represent?

GF Girl said...

it's again the language used, the beliefs are another issue. But apparently we're still not able to communicate on this issue

I would also like to point out context. Shortening the word homosexual by using homo in way in which there was no intention to be offensive to anyone should not warrant having my head bitten off verbally. I also believe women and men are wired completely differently. I think the earlier discussion only leads to that fact, so no, I believe men and women are very different and God created us that way. You can be different and equal, plus in the end none of those gender traits will matter because we will all be the same according to the Bible.

K - the word whether shortened or in full length and the mindset behind it is what I was offended by - but regardless I'm walking away from this - we're on opposite ends and the gap will not be minimized with further discourse

In my opinion, the discrimination that is faced by the "demographic that [you] represent" Shawn, is incomparable to the discrimination that is faced amongst the other "races", the marginalized, the gays and the lesbians, women, the people with disabilities, the refugees, the immigrants, the people living with HIV/AIDS, and the list continues...

I think for the White hegemonic male society comparing the discrimination they face to that faced by others outside their norms, and considering it "reverse racism" or whatever you want to call it is one lame ass excuse.

I think Jenn just feels passionate about those who are underrepresented. It isn't a matter of who's right and who's wrong. We're interpreters of the truth. And what that truth may be is different in each and every person's mind. And how somebody processes that particular interpretation is their problem. So I think the need to belittle someone else's argument is pointless. And in a way you are now telling them that they are wrong and you are indeed right. Thus, defeating the argument because we are all essentially clueless.

Sounds like everyone here just needs to take a step back, sit down, take a shot of something and just relax...your all going to have a stroke by the time you are 35 if you keep this up.

Yes, Joel you are right

I think I would rather get a stroke than sit and relax and be comfortable with the status quo. I was gonna say that I was gonna delete the comment I made because I don't think it really helped with anything. Because we are all Christians here, right, and fighting each other is really total nonsense. But I'm gonna leave what I said because I meant it and I commented in the first place because I don't think Jenn should have been cornered like that even though I know she is most capable of taking care of herself. And yes, I agree, to relax is good. But being passive about something so as to not ruffle a couple of feathers isn't.

I have no idea what you are all talking about, but arguing over the internet is like the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still retarded.

Consider the above a test, because if everyone gets mad about me making fun of the special olympics...well...then we all die a little inside.
